Venues for Dinner and drinks
Hi Guys
I have had a couple of enquires about the exact details of our forthcoming reunion so thought I should reconfirm our arrangements. It appears we will have at least 33 people attending but of course would welcome many more.
Five Fingers Frankland, our bagman, has recently sent you details of the dinner and a request to start the money rolling in. That dinner will be held at the Peninsula Hotel (The Penn), on the evening of Saturday October 14 and we shall meet there at 1800 for pre dinner drinks with dinner served around 1900. The Penn is within easy access to all the accommodation you have booked and for most it will merely be a short stroll through Mandurah’s beautiful Marina. For those booked at the Sebel you are right next door.
Of course that is our second night as we shall be first meeting for our meet and greet on our actual anniversary at the Oceanic Bar and Grill at 1730 on Friday 13th. The Oceanic is a large venue overlooking the marina and we have reserved a roped off section for our use. Drinks will be available at the bar and for those interested there is a wide variety of meals available if you wish to eat a little later. There are of course many restaurants and food outlets in the immediate surrounds but your committee can recommend the Oceanic for its diversity of meals. The Oceanic is an open venue (under cover) so in the unlikely event of a bit of a breeze a light jacket may be advisable.
On Sunday 15th we are proposing a day trip show casing some of the Peel Region by both water and land. (something like this . http://mandurahcruises.com.au/cruises-tours/coach-cruise-day-trips/ ) Mandurah is all about its waterways, pristine canals and wildlife. No trip o Mandurah would be complete without a tour of at least some of these waterways so if the full trip is not to your liking we would recommend at the very least a one of the shorter canal cruises that run virtually hourly from close by. Of course the tour above must be tantalising to the ladies (and Giuilie) with a cruise to see the spectacular homes in the area, dolphins, a visit to the Chocolate factory as well as one of the local wineries.
That leaves Saturday before the dinner free and of course Monday for those staying on. There is a huge variety of attractions on offer and maybe a look at one of these two sites will interest you. www.visitpeel.com.au visitor@mandurah.wa.gov.au . Of course you may choose to just chill out, go to the beach or maybe take a quick 55 minute train ride up to the Perth city. If there is anything we can do assist you please avail yourselves of the services of one of your committee members.
For those staying on its time to think about our wider surrounds and maybe venture further afield. Remember WA is famous for its wildflowers which should be in full bloom at this time of the year.
On another note I want to introduce our proposed merchandise for this years reunion. TC will be sending out details in a few weeks but we have decided we should change from the usual cap and tee shirt so have decided on this. Its light weight and water resistant. In a bid to keep costs to a minimum we hired the cheapest model we could find so ladies don’t worry they are available in a lovely feminine style. The badge will be embroided on the upper left side and of course the colours will match.
It is proposed to hold the reunion over the period 13 – 16 October 2017 with the meet and greet being held on the evening of 13 October and the reunion dinner being held on 14 October 2017. We are planning for options on the following Monday (fishing charters/ladies pamper day etc) so a 4 day weekend should be contemplated.
Your committee highly recommends the Mandurah Visitors Centre who are extremely helpful. www.visitpeel.com.au visitor@mandurah.wa.gov.au (08 95503999) If you want any specifics you should contact them or you will find them only about 400 metres from our reunion site.
The Marina is only one part of the Mandurah waterfront area as you will see from the attached maps. The whole area is alive with restaurants, pubs, nightclubs (What!!) and other tourist related activities and I have no doubt you will wander through the area during your stay. It is all within walking distance. Although they label this the city centre that relates more to banks, lawyers etc and the major of shopping precincts are further afield. There are of course shops like Woolworths in this area for those who are self-catering.
This email is to give you a start at looking at the accommodation options available in Mandurah. Mandurah is a major tourist destination and not being peak season or school holidays the options are endless. You may decide renting a holiday villa, time share or even a houseboat are more appealing options than those shown below but the options shown are within easy access to the Mandurah Ocean marina which as you have already agreed will be the centre of our activities. Included are major resorts down to caravan parks and all are within very easy access to our activities.
See the attached map of the Marina with reference to the points I discuss under. Please note the scale on the bottom.
-
SEASHELLS RESORT (abt 250 metre walk) https://seashells.com.au/resorts/mandurah/overview/ Virtually on the beach this is a 4 ½ star resort . As with all accommodation check the various booking agencies for discounts rather than booking direct. As this is a self catering resort none of the official functions will be held here.
-
SEBEL MANDURAH RESORT (abt 350 Metres walk) See attached file or http://accorhotels.com.au/accommodation/mandurah-wa/sebel-mandurah .Again a 4 ½ star resort but with full facilities. Although your committee have not yet agreed on a location for the formal dinner the Sebel is offering some good deals.
-
ATTRIUM RESORT (abt 450 metre walk) http://www.atriumhotel.com.au/ 3 ½ star is a popular time share type resort that is half way between the Mandurah foreshore and the Ocean Marina. It is still within easy walking distance of everything. And features an indoor swimming pool in the lobby. It is older than the other resorts but will be investigated for our formal dinner.
-
THE PALLADIO which encompasses the Dolphin Quay apartments is located on the Ocean Marina. http://dolphinquayapartments.com.au/ Again a 4 ½ star Resort offering 1 or 2 bedroom apartments with restaurants and bars next door. It is probably
that our meet and greet will be held in very close proximity.
-
MANDURAH OCEAN MARINA CHALETS (next door and no more than 100 metres walk ) http://www.marinachalets.com.au/ 3 ½ star Chalet type accommodation run by the Mandurah Council and offering family suites if you want to share. These are very popular and no matter where we hold our functions you will be right in the thick of it here.
-
TIMBERTOP CARAVAN PARK (abt 600 metres away) http://www.campinaustralia.com.au/campfinder/place/timber-top-caravan-park An older style caravan park but extremely close to facilities. Phone (08) 9535 1292. This is not a big park so make your decisions early. It is not affiliated with any of the big caravan park chains.
-
BELVEDERE CARAVAN & TOURIST PARK (abt 2 kilometres away) http://www.belvederecp.com.au/ very close to the beach and shops/pub. . It is not affiliated with any of the big caravan park chains
-
MANDURAH CARAVAN & TOURIST PARK (abt 7 ½ kilomteres away) https://www.mandurahcaravanpark.com.au/ 4 Star Top Tourist Park) Great facilities and all the main shopping areas are between you and the Ocean Marina.
-
MANDURAH FORESHORE MOTEL (less than 2 kilometres away) (http://foreshoremotel.com.au/) This motel is located in the heart of the Mandurah Foreshore although a little way away from the actual Marina. It is on Gibson Street on he Eastern Foreshore on the attached map.
Now we need more commitment. Numbers are important when we start looking at venues for our meet and greet and formal dinners. To date only the following have indicated they will probably attend. Could you please indicate if your spouse/partner will be attending with you.
